Structural Synthetic Fiber

The rapid development of organic polymer synthesis technology has led to continuous improvement of fiber properties, while production costs have also been reduced. This has made the application prospects of synthetic fibers in concrete increasingly broad. Currently, synthetic fibers used in concrete include polypropylene fibers (PPF), polyethylene fibers (PEF), polyvinyl alcohol fibers (PV AF), polyacrylonitrile fibers (PANF), polyester fibers (PETF), polyamide fibers (PAF), etc. These synthetic fibers of different materials can be divided into monofilament, bundle monofilament, and fibrillated mesh according to their shapes, and can be classified into macro fibers and micro fibers according to their thickness. Many domestic scholars use 0.1mm as the boundary point between macro and micro fibers, while some foreign scholars are accustomed to using 0.3mm as the boundary point. The functions of macro structural syntehtic fibers and synthetic micro fibers are different. The volume fraction of synthetic micro fibers is generally between 0.05-0.2%, mainly used to prevent early cracking of concrete, reduce cracks and defects during construction, improve the internal quality of concrete, enhance the durability of concrete such as frost resistance and impermeability, and improve the high temperature resistance of concrete; The volume fraction of macro structural synthetic fibers is higher than that of micro fibers, usually between 0.2-2%. It is mainly used to control concrete shrinkage, temperature cracks, constrain concrete crack propagation under load, enhance concrete toughness, impact resistance, and fatigue resistance.
